AKC Fit Dog - Level One (MC) (Members Only)
with Melissa Cushman
The AKC FIT DOG Level One course was designed to inspire dog owners to engage in fitness-related activities with their dogs while minimizing the risk of injury or harm due to inexperienced instruction. The course will expose dogs to a variety of exercise types including cardio flexibility, balance and strength training, as well as mental fitness and confidence building. Each class will include a warm up exercise, a cardio component, two or more strength exercises and a cool down.
Teaching any new skill to a dog will target their mental fitness and navigating new equipment will boost confidence and proprioception skills. ***This class will earn you 3 points towards the AKC FIT DOG TITLES***
Prerequisites: It is recommended that participants in the class complete at least a puppy class or the equivalent. Dogs should understand the training game, and be able to focus on tasks during class while in the presence of other dogs.
Please note: This course is not designed to train you on how to develop fitness programs for dogs or how to work with dogs in need of rehabilitation. This course is only for healthy dogs with no significant prior injuries or ongoing conditions.
